Komodo National Park itself is boat-only. There are no public roads, no car ferries for private vehicles, and no place to park on Komodo or Rinca island — every visitor arrives by boat from Labuan Bajo. A “Komodo National Park car” therefore means the land legs: the run from Komodo Airport (LBJ) to your harbour, marina or jetty before departure, and the pickup after your boat docks. We operate those land legs with local drivers and a fixed fare quoted in USD in writing before you commit.
What does a Komodo National Park car actually cover?
Being honest about scope saves you money. Here is what a car can and cannot do for a park trip, per 2026:
- Airport to harbour or marina — Komodo Airport sits inside Labuan Bajo town, so the harbour area is usually a short 10–15 minute drive in normal conditions.
- Hotel to pier on departure morning — including the early boarding slots most day boats and liveaboards use.
- Standby while you are on the water — the vehicle either waits, or is released and re-booked for your return time.
- Return run after docking — back to your hotel, to the airport, or straight onto an overland route east.
- What it cannot do — enter the national park, cross to Komodo or Rinca, or replace any boat leg. Anyone selling you a “car tour of Komodo island” is selling something that does not exist.
Where does the car drop you for park boats?
Departure points differ by operator, and getting dropped at the wrong pier is the single most common cause of a missed boat. Tell us the pier name on your booking voucher and we will confirm it before the day:
- Labuan Bajo public harbour — most shared day-trip speedboats and traditional wooden boats leave from here.
- Marina and waterfront berths — used by many private charters and premium liveaboards, a few minutes further along the bay road.
- Hotel and resort jetties — several properties north and south of town board guests directly.

Our driver stays with the vehicle until you have physically boarded, not just until you have been dropped at the gate.
Which vehicle fits your group and dive gear?
Park trips carry more luggage than ordinary transfers — dive gear, dry bags, camera cases, and often a full suitcase that stays with the car. Rough guidance:
- 1–3 people, soft bags: a compact MPV such as an Avanza or Ertiga is enough for the short harbour hop.
- 4–5 people with suitcases: an Innova gives you real boot space and a more comfortable ride on the Golo Mori road.
- 6–12 people or full dive kit: a Hiace is the practical choice; tanks and BCDs eat space fast.
- Larger groups: a minibus, or two vehicles moving in convoy so nobody is separated from their gear.
How do we time the car around boat departures?
Boarding times are the constraint, not driving times. Day boats typically board very early morning; many liveaboards board late morning or afternoon. We build a buffer into every pickup rather than cutting it fine, and we plan around three common situations:

- Night-before arrivals. Airport to hotel on arrival day, then a separate short hotel-to-pier run at dawn. Usually cheaper than holding a car overnight.
- Boat first, road trip after. Some guests finish the park and continue east by road the same week; a full-day car charter is the sensible base for that.
How do you book, and what happens on the day?
- Message us on WhatsApp with your date, pier name, number of passengers, luggage, and flight or boat times.
- We reply with a written fixed fare in USD plus vehicle type — no meter, no airport surcharge added later, no “traffic fee”.
- You confirm. We send the driver’s name and vehicle details ahead of the day.
- On arrival the driver meets you with a name board at the terminal exit; for hotel pickups he waits in the lobby at the agreed time.
- Payment is settled directly on the day, or arranged in advance for multi-day bookings.

Common questions
Can I drive my own rental car into Komodo National Park?
No. The park is a marine and island reserve reached only by boat. Vehicles stay on the Flores mainland. Anything you rent in Labuan Bajo serves the mainland side of your trip.
Should the car wait while I am on a multi-day liveaboard?
Usually not. Holding a vehicle and driver for three or four idle days costs far more than booking two separate one-way runs. We will tell you plainly which option is cheaper for your dates rather than defaulting to the bigger booking.
What happens if my boat returns late?
Sea conditions move schedules, and we plan for it. Send a message when you know your revised docking time and the driver adjusts. For returns that slip past a reasonable window, we confirm any waiting arrangement with you first — never silently on the invoice.
Can you carry dive tanks and oversized luggage?
Yes, with the right vehicle. Tell us the number of divers and whether you are carrying your own tanks or renting locally, and we will size the car accordingly instead of squeezing gear into a compact MPV.
