Labuan Bajo City Tour by Car | Half-Day Private Charter

Labuan Bajo City Tour by Car | Half-Day Private Charter

A Labuan Bajo city tour by car is a private half-day charter — normally 4 to 6 hours — that links Batu Cermin Cave, the Rangko Cave lagoon and the hilltop viewpoints above the harbour, using one vehicle with a local driver and door-to-door pickup from your hotel. As of 2026 we run it as a written fixed-fare charter quoted in USD, not a per-seat ticket, so the price does not change if you are two people or five. Komodo Airport Car Rental is operated under Komodo Luxury, and every fare is confirmed in writing on WhatsApp before you commit to anything.

What does a Labuan Bajo city tour by car actually cover?

Labuan Bajo is a small harbour town on the western tip of Flores. The town centre itself takes twenty minutes to walk, so a city tour is really about the ring of caves, hills and coastline within a 45-minute drive. You keep the same car and driver for the whole block of time, which means you can add, drop or reorder stops on the day without renegotiating anything.

Batu Cermin Cave

Roughly 4 km from the town centre, about 15 minutes by car. A limestone cave where midday light hits the wall and reflects — hence the name “mirror stone”. The site has its own local guides and a separate entrance fee paid on arrival; the walk inside involves low ceilings and a short scramble, so flat shoes help. Most guests spend 45 to 60 minutes here.

Rangko Cave lagoon

North of town in Boleng district, roughly 60 to 90 minutes by car depending on road conditions, then a short local boat hop from the shore to the cave mouth. Inside is a saltwater pool that turns turquoise when the sun is high, which is why we usually schedule Rangko between 10:00 and 13:00. Be aware of two honest points: the last stretch of road is rough and unsuitable for a low sedan, and the boat is run by the village co-operative and paid separately on site. We will tell you the current boat rate range when we quote.

Viewpoints and the harbour front

Bukit Cinta (Love Hill) sits about 20 to 30 minutes east of town and is the classic sunset stop over the bay and its islands. Puncak Waringin is close enough to the centre that many guests walk it, but we can drop you at the top and collect you after. Add the harbour, the fish market area and the Kampung Ujung waterfront food stalls in the evening and you have a full picture of the town.

Optional add-ons

Melo Village on the road east gives a wide view back over the bay and is where the Caci whip-dance is arranged; it needs advance notice. Cunca Wulang waterfall is a half-day on its own. Guests continuing inland usually convert the charter into our Labuan Bajo to Wae Rebo overland run the next day.

Which vehicle suits a city tour?

Distance is short but the roads to Rangko and the viewpoints are steep and uneven, so ground clearance matters more than luxury.

  • Two to four passengers with day bags — a Toyota Avanza is the standard and most economical choice.
  • Four to five passengers, or anyone wanting more legroom on the rough section — the Innova Reborn rides noticeably better on the Rangko road.
  • Six or more, or families with grandparents and children — a Hiace keeps everyone in one vehicle rather than splitting into two cars.

All charters include the driver, fuel and parking. Our drivers are Flores locals who speak everyday conversational English — enough to explain stops, timing and where to eat, but not a substitute for a licensed narrating guide. If you want a certified guide for the day, say so and we will arrange one at additional cost rather than pretending the driver is one.

How do you book a city tour car and driver?

  1. Message us on WhatsApp with your date, hotel or arrival point, passenger count and the stops you care about most.
  2. We reply with a suggested route order (light-dependent, so Rangko usually goes mid-morning) and a total fare in USD, written out with what is and is not included.
  3. You confirm. We send the driver’s name and phone number the evening before, plus a pickup time.
  4. Payment on the day in IDR cash or by transfer. No deposit is required for a standard half-day charter.

If you land the same morning, we can attach the city tour directly to your airport pickup on arrival day so one vehicle handles both and you are not paying twice.

How much does a Labuan Bajo city tour cost?

Indicative charter rates as of 2026, per vehicle, not per person:

Vehicle Half day (up to 5 hours) Full day (up to 10 hours)
Avanza / Xenia (1–4 pax) from USD 40 from USD 60
Innova Reborn (1–5 pax) from USD 55 from USD 80
Hiace Commuter (up to 10 pax) from USD 75 from USD 110

Adding Rangko typically raises the vehicle fare because of the extra distance and waiting time. These figures are indicative, not a published tariff. They move with fuel prices, season, pickup location and how many hours you actually book, and they exclude entrance fees, the Rangko boat, meals and any national park charges. The only number that binds us is the one we write to you on WhatsApp for your specific date.

Why quote this way? Large booking platforms list Flores car hire at prices that bundle commission and hide the real inclusions until checkout. Quoting the vehicle directly, in writing, is cheaper and easier to argue with.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours do I need for a Labuan Bajo city tour?

Five hours covers Batu Cermin, a viewpoint and the harbour comfortably. If Rangko Cave is on your list, budget a full day or accept that it will be Rangko plus one other stop and nothing more — the drive each way is the constraint, not the sightseeing.

Can I do the city tour on the same day my boat trip ends?

Often yes. Komodo day boats usually dock in the late afternoon, which leaves time for Puncak Waringin at sunset and dinner at Kampung Ujung. Rangko does not work on a boat day because the lagoon needs high sun.

Is the driver waiting with the car at every stop?

Yes. A charter means the vehicle and driver stay with you for the booked hours. You are not paying point-to-point, and there is no meter running while you are inside a cave or eating lunch.

Do you charge more for a solo traveller?

No. The fare is per vehicle. One passenger in an Avanza pays the same as four, which is usually where private charter beats a per-seat group tour once you are two or more people.
